Travel Tips for Bolivia:
Altitude Awareness: Bolivia is home to some of the highest cities in the world, including La Paz, which sits at over 11,900 feet above sea level. Acclimatize slowly over a few days to avoid altitude sickness, which can affect anyone, regardless of fitness level. Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol to help your body adjust more comfortably.
Local Currency: The Bolivian Boliviano (BOB) is the local currency, and while credit cards are accepted in major cities, it’s advisable to carry cash, especially in rural areas where ATMs may be scarce. Small denominations are particularly useful for local markets and street vendors.
Respect Cultural Norms: Bolivia is rich in indigenous cultures, each with its own unique traditions and practices. Be respectful of local customs, especially when visiting sacred sites, participating in ceremonies, or interacting with local communities. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people or private spaces.
