Explore Bangkok’s golden temples and river life, visit a hidden cave temple, and spend a week on Koh Tao working with marine biologists at Black Turtle Dive. Through daily dives, workshops, and field projects with Conservation Diver, you’ll earn advanced certifications, contribute to reef restoration, and gain research experience. Alongside scuba conservation, you’ll also rock climb, freedive, and experience Thailand’s natural beauty and rich traditions.
Meet with your group to depart from your stateside airport to head across the planet to Thailand.
Arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, and settle into your new surroundings. While in Bangkok, you will engage in several team building activities and visit many cultural sites, such as the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun. You'll enjoy a riverboat tour on the Chao Phraya River, visit an ethical wildlife sanctuary, and explore local markets.
The group will travel south toward the Gulf of Thailand. Together, you'll explore the Phraya Nakhon Cave, including the sunlit Kuha Karuhas Pavilion. You'll continue toward the southern coast for your ferry transfer to Koh Tao.
Our marine conservation work begins! Each day includes hands-on lessons and ocean dives focused on reef ecology, marine monitoring, and conservation techniques. Participants will care for coral nurseries, assist with coral transplantation, and take part in marine debris removal while collecting and analyzing ecological data that supports ongoing research. The experience also includes rock climbing and freediving (apnea) training, along with evening discussions, workshops, and group reflections. By the end of the program, students will earn advanced Conservation Diver certifications.
The journey concludes with a scenic ferry and coach transfer back to Bangkok, followed by a free afternoon for exploration or shopping. That evening, the group gathers for a farewell dinner to celebrate accomplishments and reflect on the experience. Participants will transfer to the airport for return flights home, arriving in the U.S. with new skills, lasting memories, and a meaningful conservation experience to carry forward.
The heart of the expedition takes place on Koh Tao, where students join marine biologists and conservation experts from Black Turtle Dive and Conservation Diver for an immersive, hands-on program. Through daily dives, workshops, and field projects, students gain advanced diving skills while actively contributing to reef restoration and ocean health. Activities include monitoring coral reefs, maintaining coral nurseries, collecting ecological data, and removing marine debris, all while building real-world research experience. By the end of the week, participants not only earn Conservation Diver certifications but also leave a lasting impact on Thailand’s marine ecosystems.
During your stay in Bangkok, you’ll dive right into the energy of Thailand’s capital by exploring golden temples like the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun, and cruising down the Chao Phraya River to see life along the water. Evenings bring the chance to try street food at buzzing markets and experience cultural performances that showcase Thailand’s traditions. It’s the perfect mix of history, culture, and fun before heading south for the adventure ahead.
One of the most unforgettable moments of the trip is the visit to Phraya Nakhon Cave, a spectacular limestone cavern that houses a royal pavilion bathed in beams of natural sunlight. The hike to reach this hidden temple is an adventure in itself, offering sweeping views of the coastline and a chance to experience rural Thailand’s breathtaking landscapes. Inside the cave, students will connect with the country’s history and spirituality in a truly magical setting.
Beyond diving and conservation, the trip includes a taste of adventure on land and in the sea. Students will have the chance to scale Koh Tao’s granite cliffs during a day of rock climbing, building confidence and teamwork while enjoying stunning island views. Another highlight is freediving training, where students learn how to explore underwater on a single breath, combining personal challenge with a new appreciation for the ocean.
